Dailystar.com Poker – Just today I have been involved in a few tournaments, mostly for a bit of practice more than anything. I wish they had been a slightly higher buy in fee, because I managed 8th place out of 360 players in a NL Holdem tournament which was quite a good result.
This type of 360 player limit tournament is comfortable to me, as you find a number of players go out early, you spend time nurturing a strong sized stack, and by the time you manage to reach this comfort zone (if you make it that far) you are approaching the money paying places and you can concentrate on that, before pushing on futher. In short, my point is that there is no phase in the tournament where you have no immediate goal other than survival and watching the number of players decrease.
I have been involved in and cashed in, a few 5 Card Draw tournaments recently too, as I do find myself missing this game and needing to log into Pokerstars for a game sometimes.
Mostly I feel that the variance is good for me and is always a good catalyst for enthusiasm, not that I often need such boosts when it comes to poker. I have made myself a promise that I will play some bigger tournaments in the coming week to work on my game in this area. They will be games of over 800 entrants although I don’t have set parameters for the game type, so I might stick with Five Card Draw… Although, I haven’t played Omaha hi/lo in a while, so perhaps that will be on the menu too.
