It is a great feeling to have cards running well for you and plays working out as intended, and it seems that often, you can build up a good run of picking up chips in this way. I had a similar type of momentum going in my most recent tournament, and I personally find my play starts to improve as I grow in confidence.

In these times of momentum, I think it is important to continue playing as you are, because it is obviously working against the players sitting with you at the table. Soon you might even find online poker players fear getting involved in pots with you because they think you are running so well, but that is not always the only reason you can go on a run of picking up chips. You must of course also be using your momentum to make well timed bluffs, and you must keep your feet on the ground enough to make a good fold when it is required too.

The most important point to remember when the momentum is with you, is that it will not last forever, and at some point your luck will run out. If you are remaining focussed as you play, you will be able to lose the minimum when that big pot comes along where you have the second best hand.

Another point that has crossed my mind, is the issue of whether there comes a point to sit back and tighten up. It could have carried me to the last two or three players if I had done this in my last tournament, but I do not know if it is necessarily the best option. Even if you pick up a strong chip lead you should use your momentum to keep winning chips where you can, but I do agree that if you feel like the tables are turning, you have reason enough to sit back for a while if you choose.
