Over the years poker has branched off into several variations of it’s original form, and most of these variants are still played to some degree both online and in live poker.

Before Texas Holdem came to the fore, Seven card stud was widely considered to be the most played and enjoyed game. Stud is still very popular though to this day, and is probably the third most played game online. Almost every online poker site will always offer at least the three games which seem to generate the most player traffic. These three being Holdem, Omaha, and Stud. The amount of players to be found playing holdem will always comfortably outreach those playing Omaha and Stud online, but then every player needs a break from their favoured games sometimes, so it is nice to see as much variation as possible on offer.
Some sites offer games aside from the most common three, with Five Card Stud, Five Card Draw, and sometimes even Razz or Triple Draw too. All these types of poker are played and enjoyed by some types of players, but they are not always offered, as a site needs to feel they generate enough interest to fill these type of tables regularly.
I do not feel that any poker variant will overtake Holdem as the most favoured game for quite some time yet, but it must happen eventually. Whether it is a greater interest in Omaha, a resurgence of Seven card Stud, or a new game entirely, poker games will always go in and out of fashion.
