www.pokerheaven.com – As poker players, we sometimes have a strong feeling of having read a situation correctly, only to see something extraordinary happen which makes us reconsider our reads of the situation. There are times when this extra information can give us the chance to change what was originally a wrong read, but there are also times when we have to go with our first instinct. I feel that you must be selective about which information is more important, and how unpredictable your opponent can usually be when involved in a hand.

This is outlined in a recent hand of mine which has been on my mind ever since. Against two aggressive players, I tried to trap the first of them after he made a reasonably large bet, and after my flat call, the plyer on my left and the original raiser, then both moved all in. My first read of the situation had been correct, but I had reverted to the logical thinking that they couldn’t possibly be both moving all in during a three way pot with the sort of hands I was putting them on. My original judgement was in fact spot on though, and I should have trusted it throughout.

I think that in poker, we must always be aware that players can be capable of anything. Despite the fact we are always trying to gather more information about the hands that oppose us, sometimes we should simply trust our first instincts when we are uncertain. Pokerheaven.com.
