Strippoker.co.uk – Poker, a Game of maths?

www.strippoker.co.uk - In many ways, poker is a game of maths, and there are professional players out there who base their decisions very heavily on figures. Playing poker in this way is profitable of course, and having no understanding of odds would certainly be a hindrance. Regardless of this fact, there are several things that combine to make poker the game it is, and the mathematics aspect is just one.
There is also a psychological aspect to poker which perhaps outweighs even the mathematical aspect. Look at it this way, if you did what was mathematically the right thing every time, you would win more than you lose, but if you studied a player and their betting patterns and made the right judgement every time, I think you would win even more. The other side of poker which is dependant on the mind too, is maintaining a grasp on your emotions, as players who begin tilting, hardly ever make a profit thereafter. You could say that there is a strong element of deception in poker too, and logic is important in portraying your hand as weaker or stronger than it is.
Overall, I would say poker is not solely a game of maths, although maths can guide you towards what will often be the right choice. You must learn to balance these factors in your mind to play good poker I feel, as you cannot play well without understanding basic maths. But then you cannot play well without having a sense of judgement, regardless of what ‘technically’ is the right choice.
